Press Conference on Human Rights Concerns in the Coming Scientific Elections

On Friday 21st August 2020, UHRC Acting Chairperson Dr. Katebalirwe Amooti, Commissioner Dr. Achan Patricia, Directors and heads of unit addressed a press conference on Human Rights concerns regarding the forthcoming scientific elections and rights to education /continued closure of schools due to COVID 19 at Twed Towers.

In fulfilment of its constitutional functions, the Commission has been monitoring the human rights situation in the country and shares its observations and recommendations since the last address to the nation in June this year

The Commission commends the efforts made so far by Government, its institutions, civil society, different communities, faith-based organizations, the media and all law-abiding citizens to manage the growing threat of the spread of COVID-19 in Uganda. However , there is a lot of complacency and negligence by many people in adhering to the Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and following the Presidential Directives issued on different occasions.
