The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has joined efforts to save the country of the acute blood shortage in hospitals. The Commission yesterday hosted officials from Uganda Blood Transfusion Services and allowed all staff to voluntarily donate their blood.
“It has been a privilege for us to work with the Commission in this blood donation session. We are grateful for having been given this opportunity,” Barbra Halado who works as a Blood Donor Recruiter with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services, said at the end of the session.
She said a number of UHRC staff showed interest in the drive and turned up. She said a total of 11 units of blood were collected during the day-long session. The officials were invited by the Commission through the Human Resource Department.
In its 21st Annual report, which is its latest, the UHRC noted shortage of blood in hospitals as one of the emerging issues of Human Rights concern.
