Commissioners
The governing body of the Uganda Human Rights Commission is the Commission, which is composed of a Chairperson and six other members appointed by the President of the Republic Uganda, with the approval of Parliament. They serve for a period of six years and are eligible for re-appointment.

Office of the Secretary

The Office of the Secretary is headed by the Secretary to the Commission and is responsible for carrying out the policy decisions of the Commission and the day-to-day administration and management of the affairs of the Commission and the control of the other staff of the Commission.

  • Additionally, the office is responsible for interpreting government standing orders/management, administration and finance policies and their implementation at the Commission
  • It is responsible for arranging the business for and the recording and keeping of the minutes of all decisions and proceedings of the Commission at its meetings
  • The office is charged with the duty of working in collaboration with the Commission to spearhead the public relations and fundraising function of the Commission.
In doing the above, the office of the Secretary supervises the day-to-day operations of the Commission and supervises activities of Directors, Regional Human Rights Officers and Heads of Units.

It has two functional Units under it namely the Public Affairs Unit and the Planning Unit.
